I'm Alive

So damn easy to say that life’s so hard
Everybody’s got their share of battle scars
As for me I’d like to think my lucky stars that
I’m alive, and well

It’d be easy to add up all the pain
And all the dreams you set and watch go up in flames
Dwell on the wreckage as it smolders in the rain
But not me, I’m alive

And today you know that’s good enough for me
Breathing in and out is a blessing can’t you see
Today is the first day of the rest of my life
And I’m alive, and well
I’m alive, and well

Airplanes & such.

So we successfully made it to Houston and back. We were able to see most of Chase's family which was nice, and I even got to ride when we went out to Pennington! Only problem there is that my butt isn't made for a western saddle. No, seriously. I had bruises - painful, purple bruises. I had lots of fun though. Really makes me miss riding.
After getting back to Houston we opened presents with the immediate family and went to bed. Bad idea. I hardly slept Sunday night and then woke up in the morning feeling like crap. I was so sick I didn't even make it to Waffle House. Yea, no faking here. It started out with cold sweats, swollen throat, nausea....and has developed into a wonderful congested head cold. Yay. Sitting here and home now, I'm still coughing and blowing my nose every 1.975493245640461 seconds.
I got to thinking yesterday on the plane...and I hate flying. The year of 2008 was full of planes for me and I don't ever plan to have another year like that. Lets see, in June we flew to Costa Rica (3 planes, each way), then in August we flew to Houston for Chase's graduation (2 planes, each way), not long after that we went on our honeymoon and had to fly down to Tampa (we had direct flights each way), and now we just went to Houston (2 planes each way). That's too much for me. I find myself becoming more and more nervous on the planes. I think I'd rather drive from now on.

Well, Mom and John should be here soon with Oslo and pizza. Off to finish cleaning!

The Aftermath

So our first Christmas as a married couple went pretty fabulously. I think we did a wonderful job with each others gifts. I got this badass amazing telescope so I can spy on other planets...and apparently other galaxies if the mood should strike me. I got some new clothes and fun things for the house as well. We also got lots of checks and cash from the rest of the family.
On Christmas Eve we all went to my grandparents like we always do. It was probably the most fun I've had over there in a while though. It was quite fantastic.
Then yesterday we had our Christmas, I made breakfast, and then we went to Mom's, saw John's family, went to Dad's, then went to Aunt Patti's. There was so much food there, and not many people...I feel like I'm getting fatter just thinking about it all! After Dad hustled everyone on the pool table, he found a guitar and started playing..then Chase started playing and Dad sang along (all Christmas songs). It was very pretty and made me all sorts of happy.
Today we've got so much to do. I've got to clean...the thought of going on vacation for a week and coming back to this is just not acceptable. I've also got to pack and take down the Christmas tree. Our flight out of Rochester leaves just before 6pm so I don't have a lot of time to do this stuff. We'll be in Houston until Friday next week.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! Today we celebrate our first Christmas together as husband and wife...yay! We've already had our Christmas this morning...it's the first time we've had our own Christmas at our own place. I'm about to make breakfast then it's off to Mom's, then Dad's, then my Aunt Patti's...It's going to be a long day but I'm excited.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a safe time of it.

Holy snow Batman!

So over the past few weeks it has been snowing here and there. A few inches would fall then it would melt. Well yesterday it fell and fell and fell. We've probably got about 9-10" of snow on the ground right now. It's so pretty. It took me 50 minutes to drive the 13 miles home from work yesterday. The snow was falling at about 1-2" per hour. It was nuts.
(these pictures were all taken around 1:30pm...the snow continued to fall until around 4ish)
